Artist Statement:

My inspiration for this peice is the Queen of Hearts from the remake movie of Alice and Wonderland. Her overall stature, additude and colorful nature made her a great choice for the subject of this playing card project. I chose the symmetrical/asymmetrical layout to make it seem pleasing to the eye, as it guides the audiences sight around the card. The color scheme, including hues of red, grey and gold, gives off a subtle but bold look to the card. I chose the specific colors to match the additude of the queen and the overall ‘dark’ feel of the midevil times. The typeface I used gives off a midevil/cursive look, which really blends well with the theme of teh Queen of Hearts. Overall, the working process was quite gruesome. After sketching multiple times, my first sketch came to life. But after working on it in a while, I decided to redo the project and start with a clean slate. This time, I came up with a better style, and stuck with the grain.
